We know that visiting a new church for the first time can be intimidating. If you’ve clicked on this link, chances are that you are in that situation.
We get it, and we’re so glad that you’re considering ReNew! We are an intergenerational church of broken, imperfect people that long to see God’s redeeming love “ReNew” the community of Ames. At our Sunday morning gatherings, you will find friendly hospitality, contemporary worship, and biblical teaching about the abundant life that Jesus offers.
Whether you are new to town, an Iowa State student seeking for fellowship, or simply someone longing for hope, ReNew Community is a place to belong. If you have any questions, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we hope to meet you this Sunday!
We want you to feel like you can just be yourself. We try to be a group of people with nothing to prove and no one to impress! Wear whatever makes you comfortable! Being in a middle school cafeteria gives our church services a laid-back feel, and we often spend time afterward just chatting.
Whether you grew up in the church, or are just checking out the Christian faith, we want everyone to feel welcomed. We work to go beyond the impersonal welcomes that local churches sometimes settle for by seeking genuine relationships that extend beyond Sunday mornings!
Looking around on a Sunday morning, you’ll find people from all walks of life. From infants to youth to singles to young marrieds, empty nesters, and older. No matter your story or your background, we want to make our community more hospitable for those who are left on the outside and pushed aside.
We have some very talented musicians that lead us in worship each week. The songs range from newer worship songs to old classics. Typically drums and guitars are a part of the mix, but occasionally we’ll do a more acoustic set.
Our church services run about an hour and ten minutes long. After a worship set and announcements, there’s a message, given by Pastor Aaron, or sometimes a visiting pastor. We end with a few more worship songs and a closing prayer. We do pass an offering plate around during announcements, but as a visitor, your presence is gift enough.
We read the Bible for what it is, not for what we want it to be. This means that we don’t skip passages that are tough. The teachings are gospel-centered, geared towards helping people find freedom and redemption from brokenness and sin.
Is your church affiliated with a certain denomination?
We are affiliated with the Reformed Church of America. You can read more about the RCA here.
Can my kids stay in the worship service with me?
Absolutely! We love having kids stay in worship with their parents. We also have a nursery available for the little ones, and an age appropriate and fun Sunday School lesson for kiddos for four-year-olds through first graders. All the kids will be checked in through our secure, computerized check-in system.
What is your church’s statement of faith?
Great question! We seek to operate in a way that lines up with what we say we believe. We align with Reformed view of Christian faith. You can read more about what we believe here.
How are you serving the Ames area?
We exist for the community, not just ourselves. This means we won’t just sit in church; we will get out and serve others. Want to come along? Check out our serving opportunities and how we’re investing in central Iowa and the world here!
How do I get more involved with the ReNew Community?
We believe that church is more than showing up for an hour on Sunday. If you’d like to get more involved with the community, click here. If you’re interested in our upcoming events, click here.
Who do I go to if I have questions?
On Sunday mornings, just look out for our Hospitality Team. They’ll have a lanyard and nametag on, and you may find them hanging out at the welcome table if you have any questions about the church service or where to go. If you would like to talk more about something you heard in a sermon or questions about your faith, Pastor Aaron would love to chat! You can email him anytime!
Is it okay if I don’t “have it all together”?
Well, we sure don’t, so we’re not expecting you to either! We believe in a God whose love is so much bigger than our biggest doubts, our worst mistakes, and our constant weaknesses. This isn’t a place where you have to get cleaned up before you come. We strive to be a place that is safe for anyone at any stage of life.
At ReNew Community, we think that pursuing and worshiping God is a family event. From newborns to grandparents and everyone in between! You’ll see kids in our church service, and chances are you might hear them too. It’s okay–we like it that way!
Our desire is to come alongside parents in the spiritual formation of their youth. We want to provide opportunities for families to be empowered, equipped, and encouraged as they take charge of family faith on Sunday morning and all week long.
You are welcome to keep your little ones with you for the church service. We also provide some options for younger ones.
We provide a safe and nurturing environment for little ones that may not do well in the service. We ensure your child’s safety with a secure, computerized check-in system.
Little ones can worship, learn a Bible lesson, and play with their peers in ReNew Kids. We also use a computerized check-in system for this age group, as well.
Typically, children join us in the worship service after finishing 1st grade. We have found that this opens up opportunities for families to be empowered, equipped, and encouraged as they take charge of family faith, not only on Sunday morning but all week long.
At ReNew Kids’ Club, kids establish meaningful relationships with other adults in the church by playing board games and then finish the evening with a Bible lesson.
